The great outdoors
Oh, the places you can go when you visit the Pacific Northwest as a travel nurse. If you’re an outdoors adventure seeker, your options range from nearby to a reasonable drive away. You can take in the mountainous beauty of Mount Rainier National Park or the wonder of North America’s only temperate rain forest in Olympic National Park. If you’re up for a hike, you can visit Discovery Park along Puget Sound or Seward Park, known for its miles of old-growth forest. You can go paddling on a kayak tour, flightseeing on a seaplane tour or biking through Seattle’s South Lake Union neighborhood.
If you’re looking for things to do in Seattle and you’re an avid sports fan, this city will not disappoint. Home to both professional and semi-professional teams, you have your choice of sporting events. Choose from Seahawks football, Mariners baseball, Thunderbirds hockey, Sounders men’s soccer and Reign women’s soccer. Seattle is also home to the Rat City Rollergirls if you care to take in some roller derby action, as well as a slew of college sports teams.
Got coffee? As a travel nurse, you may rely on this popular pick-me-up—and Seattle is synonymous with coffee! This Northwestern city is home to legendary Starbucks, and you can visit the Starbucks Reserve Roastery & Tasting Room to get a behind-the-scenes barista-guided tour and tasting (of course!). Other coffee hot spots include Victrola Coffee Roasters, Caffe Vita, Storyville Coffee and Caffe Ladro.
Dine and sip
What cuisine are you in the mood for? Seattle is known for its fresh Pacific seafood, but is also home to 50+ restaurants owned and operated by award-winning chefs. You can opt for classic American, Italian, French, Asian, Mexican and Mediterranean, to name just a few. And when it’s time to wet your whistle, Seattle offers your choice of homegrown microbreweries, wineries and even distilleries.
Your time in Seattle wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the historic Pike Place Market. You can marvel at the piles of fresh seafood, fish tossing (you have to see it to believe it!), fresh produce, fresh-roasted coffee, baked goods, souvenirs and much more. Other highly rated must-see spots include the Space Needle, Underground Tour, Museum of Pop Culture (with a section dedicated to Seattle music), Museum of History and Industry, Seattle Great Wheel and the Seattle Aquarium.
