Travel Destinations: Denver

Known as the Mile High City due to its elevation, Denver is one of the top travel nurse destinations. Nestled in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, Denver boasts a rich culture with much to do as soon as you punch the time clock. As a Denver travel nurse, you can explore outdoors or indoors, in warm weather or cold weather, with plenty of options for arts, culture, dining, shopping, sports, music and nightlife. As we continue with our Travel Series, our next stop is up in the Rockies: Denver, Colorado.

Sports and outdoor life

So why choose a travel nurse placement in Denver? First, if you have a love of sports—either professional or just getting active on your own—Denver is the place to be. You can root for the home team (Broncos football, Nuggets basketball, Rapids soccer, Mammoth or Outlaws lacrosse, Rockies baseball, Avalanche hockey or even Barbarians rugby!) at a local sporting center, such as the Pepsi Center or Coors Field. And if you love the outdoors, Denver is a jumping-off point for legendary Rocky Mountain ski resorts, national parks, biking and hiking trails, city parks, golf courses, fishing spots and even outdoor fitness classes at the historic Red Rocks amphitheater.

Transportation

If you don’t feel like traveling by car, no problem. As you’re deciding what to see in Denver, you can visit Union Station—an iconic downtown train station that dates back to 1914. Plus, you can grab a quick bite or beverage from one of many eateries or bars within the station as you wait. You can also travel by Metro, taxi, Uber, bus or bike—Denver is an extremely bike-friendly city.

Shopping

Ready to shop ‘til you drop? Visit the Cherry Creek Shopping District for a full-on shopping experience as you’re surrounded by independently owned shops, boutiques, galleries, restaurants and spas. You can also travel to the 16th Street Mall for quaint artisan gifts, or Larimer Square for chic sophisticated fashion. If antiques are more your thing, you might want to visit Antique Row for independent vintage stores and antique shops.

Music and night life

For things to do in Denver after the sun goes down, you can catch live music at the wide array of music venues: The Pepsi Center, Fiddler’s Green, 1st Bank Center, Fillmore Auditorium, Ogden Theatre, Bluebird Theater, Gothic Theatre, Ophelia’s Electric Soapbox and El Chapultepec, just to name a few. And no trip to Denver would be complete without a show at the Red Rocks Amphitheater.

Food and dining

What happens when you get hungry? With its many chef-owned neighborhood restaurants, Denver has a wide range of dining options, including a few must-try Denver hot spots: Vital Root for vegetarian, Matsuhisa Denver for Japanese fair, Avanti for a wide variety of cuisines, and Guard and Grace for an American steakhouse experience. And while you’re in town, don’t forget to tour the Denver Beer Trail: the route of Denver’s brewery boom.
